In February 2005, the mortgage company and its subsidiary, Summit Securities, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The collapse cost more than 10,000 investors some $450 million. Shareholders filed a class action lawsuit alleging securities fraud. A proposed settlement awards investors $7.25 million. (Oct-27-05)
