A settlement has been given preliminary approval in the class action lawsuits filed against Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire regarding the recall of Firestone ATX, ATX II and Wilderness AT in August 2000. Under the terms of settlement, $15.4 million would be used for a three year consumer education and awareness campaign, and the company would manufacture certain tires with cap strips, nylon strips or other material that provides better high speed capacity.
