Verizon Wireless
June 18 2007
A class action lawsuit has been filed against the cellular service provider for allegedly illegally profiting form late fee charges. The lawsuit was filed in Alameda Superior Court and alleges Verizon Wireless' late fees are inflated and operate as a profit center. The suit claims that companies are only allowed to use late payment fees to recoup the actual costs associated with late payments.
Verizon Wireless imposes the late charges under its standard customer contract that allows for a late charge of 18 percent annually, or a flat $5 fee, whichever is greater. Under California state law, consumers must be charged no more than a reasonable sum that approximates the actual costs associated with processing late fees.

Long time customer (put up with many highly irritating and costly growing pains with no compensation). First time over on minutes - charged seven times established market rate for minutes ($364.16 for time sold for $50."within billing period").Verizon offered $100. adjustment. Quit Verizon in protest and further billed.

FIOS was run in my neighborhood last summer. On April 30, June 21 and June 25 my DSL and or home line went down. Service was not restored until 5/7, 6/21 and 6/27. Wasted 20 hours talking to Verizon DSL tech support. Had another line go down in same house for 6 days that was only fixed after a call to the Public Service Commission. Knocked my neighbor's phone out each time they fixed ours. Know of people in at least three neighborhoods having the same problems in New Castle County, DE. Would love to be a lead plaintiff.
