St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co., IA
A class action lawsuit has been filed against St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co. by two doctors from Linn County, Iowa. The doctors allege that the company has denied malpractice insurance coverage that is owed to Iowa doctors. The doctors paid the company for coverage which included free "tail coverage," which covers doctors when they retire, die or become disabled. The company informed the Iowa insurance commissioner and its insured physicians in December 2001 that it would no longer provide malpractice insurance to Iowa doctors, and also dropped the "tail coverage" which had already been paid for.
