Class action status is being sought in a lawsuit filed against the Realtors Association of South Central Wisconsin and its separate Multiple Listing Service Corporation on behalf of realtors. According to the plaintiffs, the Association forced them to buy memberships as a condition of belonging to the MLS. The suit alleges that this was a violation of the 1991 Thompson federal appeals court decision which held that a Realtor association that had monopoly power over its MLS could not force real estate agents to purchase memberships in the trade association as a condition of gaining access to the MLS.
