Class action status has been granted in a lawsuit filed against the nation's top modeling agencies, including Elite Model Management, Ford Models Inc. and Wilhelmina Models. The suit was filed by six models who claim that the agencies were overcharging models commissions and fees for finding them work. The suit alleges that the agencies fixed models' commission rates at 20 percent, twice the 10 percent allowed by state law for employment agencies. Under class action certification, there may be thousands of models who will join the suit.
