A group of California consumers filed federal and state class action lawsuits totaling an unprecedented $2.2 trillion against fax broadcaster Fax.com, Inc.
Also accused of violating federal law prohibiting junk faxes is Fax.com's telecommunications provider, Cox Business Services, a division of Cox Communications, Inc. , as well as Fax.com's advertisers.
The suit also claims lives may have been put in danger. In one case more than 1,000 telephone calls were sent at once to the University of Washington Medical Center from a "war dialer" at Fax.com.
The Federal Communications Commission had just announced a proposed fine of $5.38M against Fax.com.
