Class action certification has been granted to the lawsuit filed against Boca Raton-based apartment giant Gables Residential Trust on behalf of at least 8,000 tenants in South Florida. The suit alleges price gouging and claims that Gables illegally charged penalties to tenants who attempted to leave before their lease was up. The suit further claims that when many of the tenants refused to pay the penalties, the company reported them to the credit union which ruined their credit ratings.
