A class action lawsuit has been filed against California's largest group of emergency room doctors for allegedly charging patients unfair, unreasonable, and inflated costs. The lawsuit was filed in Alameda County Superior Court and claims California Emergency Physicians Medical Group (now known as CEP America) allegedly charged uninsured patients higher prices for treatments than insured patients.
CEP America contracts with hospitals around the state to staff its emergency rooms at 55 hospitals throughout California. Insured patients typically pay a portion of discounted rates negotiated by their health plans, while California's nearly 7 million uninsured residents face the full fare.
