A class action lawsuit has been filed against Karen Reinertson, executive director of the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, and Marva Livingston Hammons, executive director of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The suit was filed on behalf of people are unable to get food stamps and Medicaid benefits, who lost child-care assistance or who face homelessness because of the many delays in the new $200 million Colorado Benefits Management System. Since the system was implemented on Sept. 1, 2004, it has been slow and has left many people without food stamps, rent money, pensions and a program that provides care for poor children.
