Class action certification has been granted to an anti-trust lawsuit filed against The Bayer Corporation, Barr Laboratories, Inc., Hoechst Marion Roussel, Inc., Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and The Rugby Group, Inc. The suit was filed on behalf of California residents who purchased or paid for the prescription antibiotic drug Cipro(R) since January 8, 1997. The suit alleges that the defendants agreed not to compete with each other, thereby preventing a lower-cost generic form of Cipro(R) from being sold and making the price higher for consumers.
