A class action lawsuit has been filed against the general store operator for allegedly denying workers overtime pay. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of cooks and cashiers and claims Casey's General Stores failed to pay them for all hours worked, including missed meal and rest breaks as well as overtime.
The class action alleges Casey's benefitted from reduced labor and payroll costs in violation of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. It claims employees were urged to work off the clock and that managers did not keep accurate time records or pay overtime based on records kept by the employees.
Casey's operates about 1,460 stores in nine states and more than 20,000 people are eligible to join the lawsuit.
