A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Bishop Guertin High School and the Rhode Island-based religious group, The Order of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, that owns the school, by two men who claim they were sexually abused in the 1970s.

The men allege they were sexually abused by Brother Guy Beaulieu while they attended the private high school in Nashua in the 1970s. The defendants in the suit which was launched by the men "for themselves and on behalf of others similarly situated," include Bishop Guertin, The Order of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and four individuals: Beaulieu and Brothers Leo Labbe, Roland Dupuis and Roger Argencourt. Argencourt died last year.

Beaulieu has admitted to having sexual contact with 17 or 18 Bishop Guertin students, as well as four or five other minors who were not students, and he has testified that he tried to seduce another 50 to 75 students but was unsuccessful.

The order and the school are being accused of negligent hiring and retaining abusive employees, failure to investigate and report instances of sexual abuse and failure to warn and protect other students from abuse.
