A class action lawsuit filed against Big Lots Stores, Inc. on behalf of thousands of employees nationwide. The suit alleged that the company violated Fair Labor Standards Act by misclassifying their furniture department managers, sales managers and assistant managers as "exempt" employees despite spending much of their time performing traditionally non-exempt, non-managerial duties. The suit also claims that the plaintiffs were routinely expected to work 45 to 55 hours per work but were paid only for 40-hour shifts.
